Toronto’s future transit network just took another big step forward.
Construction crews have officially completed the striking steel arch of the Lower Don Bridge, a key piece of the long-awaited Ontario Line project. Stretching 120 metres across the Don Valley and Don River, the dramatic new bridge will eventually carry nearly 400,000 riders every day once the line is fully operational.
Rising roughly 14 metres high, the structure is quickly becoming one of the most recognizable features of Toronto’s evolving skyline — and a symbol of how dramatically the city’s east end is changing.
A Transit Line Reshaping the City
The bridge milestone comes only weeks after tunnelling officially began for the Ontario Line, the massive new transit route designed to connect the city from Exhibition Place to the Ontario Science Centre area.
Once complete, the line is expected to:
Significantly reduce travel times across Toronto
Connect riders to TTC and GO Transit routes throughout the city
Ease pressure on overcrowded subway lines
Help reduce traffic congestion on both the DVP and Gardiner Expressway
For commuters frustrated by gridlock, the Ontario Line is being positioned as one of the city’s most transformative infrastructure projects in decades.
Development Is Already Following the Transit Boom
The surrounding neighbourhoods are already feeling the effects of the project.
In Corktown, former industrial lands are rapidly being replaced with residential towers and mixed-use developments, while just east of the Don River, the upcoming East Harbour Transit Hub is expected to anchor a massive new community featuring:
More than 4,000 homes
Roughly 50,000 new jobs
Major office, retail, and public space developments
Several ambitious projects are also rising near the bridge itself, including:
A crystalline office tower overlooking Joel Weeks Park
A Danish-designed residential complex with 340 homes near Broadview and Eastern
A modern red-brick high-rise in the Distillery District
As construction continues, the Lower Don Bridge is already becoming more than just a transit crossing — it’s emerging as a landmark for Toronto’s next era of growth.
