One of Toronto’s most beloved green spaces is about to look very different.

Evergreen Brick Works, the urban nature and community hub tucked into the Don Valley, is undergoing a massive $16-million transformation aimed at making the site more welcoming, sustainable, and resilient for the future.

The redevelopment will focus on five major areas across the property, with some upgrades expected to open as early as this summer.

A New Vision for the Brick Works

At the heart of the project is a complete revamp of the Ravine Centre, which is set to become a new gathering space featuring Indigenous-led programming and cultural experiences. The renovations will also bring major climate-focused improvements, including:

  • A more energy-efficient HVAC system
  • Flood-protection upgrades
  • Enhanced stormwater management
  • Net-zero operational initiatives

The goal is to future-proof one of Toronto’s busiest public spaces while improving the experience for the hundreds of thousands of visitors who pass through each year.

New Restaurant, Children’s Garden & Public Art

Visitors can also expect a refreshed welcome centre and tower, complete with a striking new steel-and-stained-glass installation by renowned Ojibwa artist Bonnie Devine.

Outside, the first phase of a brand-new Children’s Garden is expected to open this fall. The family-focused space will include:

  • An outdoor amphitheatre
  • A firepit gathering area
  • A shaded canopy structure

Other improvements across the site will include upgraded lighting and improved accessibility features.

From Industrial Site to Urban Oasis

The Brick Works officially reopened in 2012 after the city transformed the former industrial brick factory into one of Toronto’s most unique destinations for nature, culture, and community programming.

Long before it became a public gathering space, the factory helped produce materials used to build some of Toronto’s most iconic landmarks — including Casa Loma and Old City Hall.

Now, with this latest investment, Evergreen Brick Works is preparing for its next chapter — blending sustainability, public space, art, and environmental innovation in the middle of the city.
