Toronto’s transit network is undergoing a dramatic transformation, with the Ontario Line leading the charge as the most ambitious subway expansion in decades. Among the many innovations arriving with this 15-stop, 15.6-kilometre line is a game-changing new station that promises to reshape how people move through the city.

Introducing Don Valley Station, the future northern terminus of the Ontario Line, located at the northeast corner of Eglinton Avenue and Don Mills Road. What sets this station apart? It will be one of Toronto’s only elevated subway stations — a departure from the city’s traditionally underground network.

Previously dubbed “Science Centre Station” (before the closure of the Ontario Science Centre and the removal of its namesake), Don Valley Station is being designed as a true intermodal hub. It will connect TTC’s Ontario Line (Line 3) with the Eglinton Crosstown LRT (Line 5) and a brand-new surface-level bus terminal.

This unique vertical configuration — elevated subway above, bus terminal at street level, and LRT below ground — means passengers will be able to seamlessly transfer across three modes of transit using elevators and escalators.

The station’s elevated design not only optimizes land use but also leaves room for future extensions northward without requiring major digging. Tail tracks will continue past the station to allow for train storage and, potentially, new expansion.

Metrolinx recently unveiled renderings of the station that show how it will hover above the new bus terminal currently under construction. With entrances on both the northeast and southwest corners of Don Mills and Eglinton, the station is designed for convenience and accessibility.

While Don Valley Station won’t open its doors until the Ontario Line launches in 2031, the integrated Don Valley Crosstown LRT station is set to enter service much sooner, with a planned opening in September.

As this visionary project comes to life, it’s clear that Don Valley Station will be a major leap forward in how Toronto builds — and connects — its future.
